Hi guys
Has anyone fitted a head steady to a plunger Inter? I am planning a few longer trips and find the vibration at about 60 mph a bit jarring. It has as it left the factory with ally/bronze head and alloy barrel in case this makes a difference.

Thanks for the reply
I decided to dig deeper....OH dear
I was going to take the cam box off to change the rocker seals anyway. So while I'm there I will look at the piston and bore...
Well I might as well take the barrel off too.....
Oh dear...
Where's the top ring gone! and that bit of piston....
Oh there seems to be some play in the big end too!!
That's where the vibration is coming from.
I'm glad I found it now and didn't try blasting up to the IOM in this state.
Anyone got a +.010 or .020 piston for a 500 Inter

Paul, firstly no head steady fitted, but is it speed or rev induced vibration? Does it pass if you increase speed? If you confirm it as speed I would be suspecting rear wheel balance or possible suspension issue. If it is something that has crept in recently and the motor is untouched (and runs like its always run), i would retrace your steps to the point where the issue was not there, then consider any changes, any mishaps or adjustments you have done. I take it you have checked your mounting bolts are tight and the frame is solid, they do give way now and then...
I run a 37 Inter MS in a 48 plunger frame; similar motor and no vibration discomfortnoticed.
Cheers
Jon

Oh my my,... are you also a little deaf Paul
That is not pretty ...
I am in the throes of a top ring split rebuild myself, heard a click when rolling overtdcwhen checking timing popped the top off and hey presto ring in situ but in two bits. I would like new ringsas the bore and piston are good and original. If any one can help with ring set for a 79.6 Manx piston I would be grateful; Else I too will be looking for a replacement...
Good luck Paul, see you on the island!!
