Colombres (North Spain) Rally

I am wondering if any members are contemplating attending this year´s event.   I have been five times, but skipped the past two years.   Not for the faint hearted, most of the "runs" are over 100 miles, but, the mountain scenery is amazing.   For the really serious (Mad!) there is a special 300 mile event (not for me!).

Hi John, Yes I am thinking of going this year, but as I normally tow my M 50 behind my motor home I am having a bit of difficulty booking, I think a participant has to stay in the designated Hotels, but as yet (3 weeks ago) have not had a reply to my enquiry.

Paul and Helen Whyman (Norfolk) have already booked, but he make take his Velo!

Regards John O

PS If I go I will be doing the 300mile event

John,

I've already booked for the rally, this will be my first time.  A friend is coming with me and we are both riding Mk 3 Commandos.  I've chosen the Portsmouth to Santander ferry as the sailing times are more convenient at the weekend.

For anyone who does not know the area :-   This part of Spain is not always warm and sunny, by the end of September.   There is a good chance of rain, and it can be (but not always!)  quite cold on the mountain runs.  Good waterproofs, and some warm clothes, are a must.  This being said, it is an experience not to be missed.   You can ride at your own pace, and stop for a break if you feel like it.  Moto Indianos (the organisers) follow the route with a breakdown van, but, try to stay in front of it.   I have been there 5 time before, but there is always more to see.  Occasionally, I have been cold, wet, and miserable, but, as Peter O-Tool said (in Lawrence of Arabia) "The trick is, not to mind that it hurts!".

Several members expressed interest, who is actually going?   I expect to arrive, early Sunday evening 6th Oct. (after trailing the bike up from Valencia).    I will be staying at the "Pension Oyambres", for the week.    If anyone would like to meet for a chat (and possibly ride in company), look out for a ´54 Dominator, and an old git with long hair, and a beard.
