Good evening folks,
After a bit of info about the bottom gearbox bolt for my '48 ES2:
The bottom gearbox bottom bolt and nut A2/312 (N.53): One end has the shaped nut for the center stand spring. The other end has a large nut with a smaller diameter threaded section coming out of it. Can anyone tell me what attaches to the smaller diameter threaded section? I have a fairly mangled inner chainchase and it comes close to this threaded bit but there is no hole in the chaincase for it.
I attached a pix for reference

Ian's got it, Bryon. There should be a small bracket welded to the bottom the inner chain case almost directly underneath the centreline of the clutch. The hole in the bracket slides over the threaded length you describe. George

Morning,
Thanks for that. The tab is long gone off the inner. Not even a sign there ever was one. Its in very bad shape. I think I will start the search for a replacement.
Cheers from Halifax,
Bryon

Best of luck, Bryon. BTW I said welded but it may well be riveted, so you could possibly make one up. George

There is a bracket on the bottom of the inner primary chaincase that is held on by the 5/16" nut.
