First start up after 7 years!

Forums

So last weekend I spent a day working on my 1956 ES2. This weekend I've spent one more day and alas it now runs sweetly!

In the process I had the head and cylinder off, as on of the former owners had used a aluminium can or the like as head gasket...

Then I decoked the head and piston and it all went back together. Then after 30 kicks it went back into life :)

Now a few smaller things await, but for now I'll just set the ignition timing (I've fitted a thor spark which delivers a fat blue spark) and flush the oil system.

A good evening to all of you

Great to get the bike up and running again. Rather a wonderful bodge uncovered. Nearest I have seen is a few turns of copper wire instead of a head gasket on a Tiger Cub. Well, there aren't many Triumph dealers in Fort William.

Well, as my father used to say to me, "necessity is the mother of invention". A pic would be good, Niels.

After 5 hours of messing about the ignition timing is now at its optimal position, and the bike is running sweetly (I'll make a video).

I took it for a run around the garden, and the gears and engine seems very well.

The oil returns in a nice flow to the reservoir, so I haven't flushed the system yet.
