...but unless it's programmed for a Norton single, an electronic version won't have that 'one, two, three, tick' movement of a proper chrono...
Someone on the 'Real Classic' pages used the term 'cadence' when referring to big singles and it applies to chronometrics too. They are a small, but essential part of that 1930s - 1960 motorcycling experience.

Thanks for the help - the electronic replacements wont work with 6 volt unfortunately. Can anyone tell me if the Hitchcoks ones are a straight replacement and match the ratio of the drive?
Thanks

Just run a low power 6VDC to 12VDC converter. It's going to need mA not A. Only a few pounds each, available from a wide range of places.

Hardly anyone will sell reconditioned chronometrics outright. The UK price for an exchanged recon. instrument is around £180 - £200. Virtually any version can be exchanged...the art therefore is to find a scruffy but rebuildable donor for not too much money - it doesn't usually have to be same speed range or with trip etc.
I'm not sure though if they will accept 'D' shape...at one time some repairers did. I don't see you getting away with less than about £300 in total though.
