My 1961 ES2's oil pump has been apart and all obvious problems have been put right. Unfortunately with the sump plug out and the bike not running oil runs out in a steady stream about the diameter of a pencil lead. Could this be caused by having the feed and return lines on the wrong way around? My bike has an aftermarket oil tank with both lines running to the bottom of the tank. One line has a stand pipe inside the tank.
How do I tell the feed pipe from the return pipe on the engine?

Allen , my 1955 es2 engine oil pipes. ( outer pipe - oil feed ) - ( inner pipe - oil return ) don't know if they altered them at a later stage

Hello that looks like a thourghbread there Barry yes you are right about these oil pipes and they have never changed them to the last Commando witch was the same setup And I do see in our day were having to fit taps in the feed line, I never real liked this But it better and having oil spitting out of your exhaust tail pipe and white smoke all over the nabuor-hud like a Gardener diesel engine, even I have had to submit to fitting an oil taps so now all start laughing and if you can find an nice vintage brass tap that will fit in your crankcase by drilling a hole a taping in a thread for it to drain off unwanted oil in the crankcase you do need a small amount just on start up only the engines own oil pump will take care of the running, here is hoping you can solove your problems yours Anna J Dixon

I have a check valve on my…
I have a check valve on my commando that has never given me trouble but the oil pressure on that motor is around 50psi, plenty to overcome the spring. Not sure what the pressure is on an ES2 but I'm assuming it's much lower.
