The plastic oil feed pipe to the cylinder head split last night, so needs replacing. Is it possible to just buy the 5/32" bore plastic pipe and fit it yourself, or is it best to buy the kit from one of the suppliers?
I've tried trimming the end of the pipes where they fit onto the banjo stubs, heating the plastic pipe and tried pushing it on, but it just splits again. The old pipe seems to have become brittle where the pipe passes over the top of the head, but not bad for 40 yrs old!

Hello, Is it best to buy the kit from one of the suppliers?
It is really very advised, too important there.

Hello Philip
I'd recommend the braided hoses also.
Our very own NOC Shop has the HEL kit which I have fitted to my bike (search for 062168SS) and also has the plastic type kit (065561). The HEL kit keeps the black appearance and protects from s/steel braid rubbing.
If money is tight then RGM list the tubing as their part number INF64B although afaik the dimensions are 1/4" OD and 0.17" ID (not 0.17mm as shown in error). Some have many miles on the original plastic without incident. Others carry spare tubing!

Hi Philip
You can buy the 1/4"nylon tube from RGM to ebay, and reuse your old fittings. It's not recommended to heat up the tube it makes it brittle and prone to cracking apparently (like the oil doesn't warm it up ;0) you need to clamp the tube, I use a bundy brake /fuel pipe split clamp though you can make a split clamp out of two pieces of hard wood in a vice and drill a 5.5mm or so hole in the joint line then you can clamp the tube without crushing it, leave enough tube protruding out of your clamp to accommodate the full length of the barbed section of the fitting tighten the vice and drive the fitting in with a mallet, I nip the fitting up on a piece of threaded rod through the bolt hole, makes it easier to keep it straight and inline with your tube, when driving it into place .
Best regards

Thanks everyone for your advice and Katherine's detailed description for DIY method. The parts will be sourced tomorrow so that I can get this long awaited tourer on the road and to my local garage for an MoT., then free road tax.

I replaced mine with a stainless braded set up from Andover Norton but they also do the standard one. RGM motors are another good supplier.
Not somewhere you want a failure.
Andover Norton have both RGM list a stainless set up priced between the two.
