hello,
i am having trouble fitting the correct engine sprocket on my dynamo 88 engine. it jams halfway
i have a larger 22 tooth sprocket and it fits snugly and there is about a 1mm between the 2 inside bore.
why the difference in size and is it unwise to dremmel the tight sprocket to fit?

wrong sprocket size and gearing
hi philip,
thanks for reply. if you have a 19 tooth or 20 tooth engine sprocket for a twin i could do a straight swop.
alternatively i can run with a 21 tooth sprocket that fits on my dynamo 88 but will the gearing be too low?

Gordon I dont have a twin,…

I dont have a twin, but I expect it will pull a22T engine sprocket if it has a smaller gearbox sprocket - its easier to change the engine sprocket than the gearbox! But it might make kickstarting harder

Hi Dan, strange as it may…
Hi Dan, strange as it may sound fitting a bigger engine sprocket actually makes it easier to kick over as you are gearing down from the k/s perspective. Helps if you are fighting a big motor .

Brighton or bust
the 21 tooth engine sprocket fits perfectly so will just have to give it a go.
no 18 tooth gearbox sprocket amongst the gash .

Mainshaft/sprocket sizes.
Hi Eddie,
The mainshaft sizes are.....OHV and SV =1" OHC = 1+1/8" 88 + 99 = 1+5/32". You cannot grind this bigger free-hand as the taper is a precision fit to create an interference fit between both tapers. A 21T will give you about 4.5 to 1 top gear which will be good for high speed cruising, but smaller for local roads.

Are you possibly trying to fit a sprocket from a Norton Single???
These look the same, as those for a twin, but have a slightly smaller taper.
