Prospective new owner

Hello, I have been thinking for some months about putting a deposit on a new 961 NortonCommando. I have had several "new" Triumphs the best of which was the new Bonny and had one of the best of the old Triumphs a TSX. I ride a 1050 Sprint at the moment which I bought really to try touring on which it does really well. I am a supporter of the British motorcycle industry in general and am fascinated by the history, production factories, peoplesthat build them/built themand enjoy the fact that these are low volume hand crafted products made in the UK. I am 52 years old however and Triumph no longer manufacture a bike in the UK that has any classic good looks that would make me want to buy the product.Really, manufacturing the Bonny abroad is a national disgrace a sales con-trickand Norton have plenty of potential customers like me.

So Norton it is then for my next bike. Triumph you have let me down.

I will be going along to the NEC to hopefully put down a deposit. I do not mind having to wait and I have taken notice of the scare stories in this forum. One thing that I will not do however is allow my cash to be used to fund the Norton company apart from my deposit of course. I will report in about the process once I have been to the NEC.

Hi Matty and others,

Spoke to Nortontoday. They are out of test bikes as getting ready for NEC show.Latest on deliveryif I placed an order now would be May 2012.Will be talking to them at the NEC and trying to book a test drive then, butI will be taking my cheque book alongso I can pay a deposit and get inline for delivery next year.

I suppose though with this Government cash from Vince Cable they will need to show they are getting bikes out to export.

You probably are not aware of how much all of us here want to see Norton be a huge success. It is unfortunate that people can write inflammatory and derogatory statements true or false for the entire world to see no matter how justified they believe they are. Unfortunately this is often accomplished by hiding behind emails and forums.

Please, no matter what the circumstances, move this energy in the opposite direction, stay on the high road and provide every available assistance to this fledgling company. I can assure you here in North America we want to buy UK manufactured motorcycles and products.

Well said Kevin, being from Cleveland Ohio in the USA I cant wait for the new bikes to arrive here! I also liked the link to the article from Stuart Garner explaining the delays & it seems all is on its way up!!!!

Hello Kevin/Skip

Welcome to the club, I have not long been a member myself, I joined afterreceivingmy New Norton 961 cafe racer, I waited, gotfrustrated like others but what a worth while wait. Nelly the Norton has been a breath of fresh air to me not the usual robotic machine we seem to get these days, all speed, gadgets and no character, she lives, breaths and looks a million dollars worth every penny spent. I agree with your sentiment, we should all be giving support to this company, its bad enoughin these troubled times trying to start a new company, so to all the knockers, get off keyboards/ar--s on their bikes and pay them a visitand see what the lads are trying to achieve.I'vebeen a few times, even called in on passing and alwaysreceive a warm welcome a good cup of coffee and a chat.

The very helpful Mark Fisher showed me around the frame and engine parts at the NECshow yeterday and was so full of passion for the new Norton company. It was a pleasure to hand over my deposit on a Manx colour 916 sport. Mine willbe born approx next August. Hoping to do a test ride in the spring and should hear from the company next week as to the conformation of delivery. Thanks for the two free mugs Mark!

Dave I've had my 961 for over a year now and apart from a small little problems it has been trouble free (touch wood). I also have some modern Triumphs and they're a lot of fun, but they just don't have that certain something that the 961 has, someone likened a Jaguar and a Ferrari as "a pair of ladies tights", doing everything they're designed to do well (the Jag), but the "Stockings" were just plain sexier (Ferrari) well apply the same logic to the Triumphs and the Norton 961 and you get what I mean, every time I go to the Triumph dealership they all come out side to look it over, infact every were I park it there ends up with a crowd around it. I've been up to Donnington for test rides, servicing and just plain ride out and a coffee, Marc Fisher and all the staff there are very helpful and friendly, nothings too much trouble for them. Norton needs all the support it can get and the "knockers" who look at the bike and run Norton down are usually a tad on the jealous side!

Hello John.. The 961 is a sexy beast and I am sure it's going to be a lot of fun.Got my invoice receipt/deposit conformation today from Norton in a nice envelopewith compliments slip.Thats all going in a collection of stuff from my purchase. I hope to go along at the start of my bikes build and take a few photos. I know that problems may occur with a bike like this which is still really being proven, but it does seem that the factory supports quite well owners once they get their bikes. I really am pleased to be supporting the British motorcycle industry. And I hope Triumph would consider switching production back to the UKand supporting more British business.

Hi Dave, as John has said the aftersales support you get from Norton is superb and the bike is a joy to ride. I have had mine for 9 months now and have completed over 3,500 miles so far. I have a few other bikes and the Norton 961 Sport is the one I use the most, every time that you park it gets surrounded with admirers. Like most owners I had to wait for the bike but it was well worth it and I can't see myself selling it (unless I get another new Norton in the future) I have a 1975 Commando also and although I still enjoy riding that(at a much more steady pace) I tend to pick the 961 most of the time. The handling, performance and braking are excellent and it is also comfortable on longer distances.

I do have some modern bikes including MV Agusta F4RR and Brutale 1090RR and although the 961 is not quite as quick it makes much more sense on the road and handles and stops just as good.

HI Dave, yes I went to see mine being put together and took photos for the scrapbook, most of us early owners are really doing their testing for them, as odd things play up etc. they put them right and then modify or correct on the other ones when they come in for a service.

Hello again everbody.

Well I have my Lovely new Norton 961 Sport Manx colours isbeing delivered to me tommorow. I placed my order at the Motorcycle show at the NEC last year with a delivery of around 12 months. I know that Norton have had delivery problems and as a new start up company without multi millions to splash around it has been difficult for them to keep everbody happy. However I must say that myown experience has been first class, Mr Mark Fisher and Mr Andy Jeans are first class in the sales department and have been totallyhonest with me andabout the problems that the company has had if fullfilling all the orders and humble with it. I had a test ride last week..bit later than I was planning due to rain and other commitments but they really are great fun to ride.Just like a British built bike should be..I am glad to have put my money where my mouth is and am proud to be supporting British manufacturing. Cant wait for the spring! Good luck to all at Norton Motorcycles and thank you for producing the best looking bike in the world.

Hi Dave, congratulations on getting the 961, I have the same model and colour and have enjoyed every minute since it was delivered in March 2011. I bet that you are pleased that you were not put off by all the bad press, I have found Norton excellent with superb after sales service.

Congratulations Dave. It's a superb product and I'm sure you'll enjoy riding it. A word of warning though: Be prepared to spend a lot of time at petrol stations and any stops that you make - you'll be amazed how many people are intersted and want to talk to you about it.

Be safe, Paul H

Hello Dave, welcome to the 961 club, glad you are happy with your bike, I know I am had mine for 16 months now and no problems what so ever. Can totally agree withPaul'scomments about long stops due to interest in the bike. Good to see a lot of the negative comments are drying up and more positive comments are being written, got to a stage where I nearlydidn't renew my membership due to the slagging Norton were getting from members of the club. Keep up the good work Norton and prove the doubters wrong.

Keep smiling and happy miles

Went to norton's annual ball sat, night at the radison blu castle donington. If you we're invited but could not make it you missed out on a great evening.Having gone through the nightmare period of waiting for delivery of my 961se,from nov2010/to aug2012.I am now 500 miles to the good& first service in the book, and a happy chap, the invite to the ball was via my purchase.I met so many owner's most of which were great character's telling me to get out on bike more. There were stories of high mileage 5,000&10,000 in some case's with scratche's&the odd dent here and their.Use it it's a motorcycle built to do mile's were the

comment's, any fault's along the way can only help back at norton factory, which made sence. So all of you still waiting hang on in there, it's more than worth it in the end.
