Present-day engines, I understand, use seals that are simply a tight push-fit on the outer diameter of the guide.
See for example, here: http://www.elring.com/en/products/oil-valve-stem-seals/valve-stem-seals/
Use of these would obviate the complications discussed in another recent thread. Does anyone have any experience with these, in a Commando?

The standard Commando kind has a flexible body located by positive engagement of a flange on the seal with a groove in the valve guide.
"Modern" typeshave a rigid body that is a firm push fit on the valve guide -- see external view attached.
Manufacturers also offer versions incorporating a valve spring seat.

Principally that my cylinder head has come back with nice new Colsibro valve guides that turn out not to have the necessary grooves to use standard seals â so, essentially, avoidance of a lot of messing about.

I have been using the push onseals on my Commando intake guides for years. My guides do not have any groves on them to hold the seals. The seals presson tightly and I have never had a problem . They require pliars to remove them for replacement.

It is well known that a valve guide seal can pop off at any time, I've only had it happen to me a couple of times, though I have changed a few for others.
I have a little mod that can prevent this. I turn up two thin steel sleeves to a nice push fit over the fitted seals to trap the seal bead into the guides groove and so far so good.
