Re: RK GP530UWV: Sealed 530 chain that fits

Forums

Just fitted a RK GP530UWV sealed rear chain to my Mk2 and it fits and runs without rubbing. Same width as a DID 530 NZ at 22,6 mm. We'll see how long she lasts.

After a (so-called) "Renold" chain breaking twice after little mileage, despite good lubrication, I looked around for alternatives.

Good tip, thank you, butwhere did you buy this chain?

I don't see it offered for sale online in the UK.

Renold haven't made motorcycle chain for many years, perhaps that's why it was breaking.

Attached pic shows my metal banana. Actually it was anewish primary chain after just 50 miles of use. It then started tapping away inside the cases so I pulled the outer cover off to check what was wrong. Thinking the clutch and drive sprockets were mis-aligned.

Wrong.........it was the play in both the pin bushes and side plates letting the beast swing from side to side like a kid on a play area ride. Adding to the misery of this so called Renolds chain was the purchase, at the same time, of an equally expensive rear chain. The same brand and both supplied by a well respected Norton spare parts dealer.

The rear chain only lasted 1000 miles despite frequent grease sprayings and and also several dunkings in one of those expensive chain melted goo bath tubs.

I now turn down anything offered to me marked with the name Renolds.
