I need rocker cover gaskets and timing cover gaskets for my '54 ES2.
I have looked in the NOC shop and on the RGM website but cannot see them listed. Does anybody know where I might get them?
Any help appreciated
Regards
Bill

Hi Bill,
rocker cover gasket was paper, you can make them out of a good quality brown paper bag or thin gasket paper, but grease it well before use.If you don't fancy that Norvil have them for about £4 each.
AFAIK timing cover does not use a gasket, I've never seen one anyway. I have always assumed that this is because of the critical clearance between the oil pump and timing case, and if you decide to put one in, I would add a washer of the same material behind the oil pump sealing washer, to maintain the seal, there is also end float of the camshafts to consider. Years ago when I stripped an engine which had never been apart, there was just sealing compound, Red Hermetite, Stag A or similar there.
Magneto chaincase I fit a gasket of klingerite, because oil does get in there, (and out again!)
Good Luck,
Cheers,
Niall

The handbook for my 16H (prewar) says to use gold size for timing case cover.I used a very thin smear of Blue Hylomar but only around the lowest half in case it sticks too well.Halfords doesn't stock gold size...

Hi guys
Thanks for all the help. I have just been looking through the parts book and realise that there probably was no rocker box to cylinder head gasket on the '54 ES2

Hi Bill, I was going to say that earlier in the piece, but not knowing if you have an aluminium head or not, and if that were to make a difference, I kept out of it.
Yes, my iron head has no gasket as such, only a smear of Loctite Master Gasket, to keep the head dry. Works a treat!

Motorcycles and Components: 'Gaskets Galore' based in 49 Evedon, Birch Hill, Bracknell RG12 7NF, United Kingdom
I think there was an actress with a similar name?
Also, RGM sell complete Gasket kits. Always handy for when you need them.
Good Luck.
