Battery strap

Forums

I have a heavy duty 12 volt battery under the seat of my Electra. I don't have the proper battery strap (previous owner had used a bit of bunjy cord) so thought I could fashion something out of stuff I had lying around.

So this is the result made from a section of inner tube and retainers either end made from coathanger wire - these wire coathangers seem to be few & far between these days!

Hi Ian, that is very interesting and helpful.  Does the YB9-B AGM battery fit the standard Electra battery holder?  Nick

Yes, after bending the nearside of the bracket out of the way. There's just room between the back of the oil tank and the toolbox with a bit of foam for vibration protection. The bottam back corner is almost touching the mudguard - although I have a feeling that that is off a Domi or similar....

By the way, people often talk about the AH of a battery as if that's the important parameter. What that tells you is how long it will last supplying a specified current - eg 9 hours at 1 amp (or 1 hour at 9 amps etc). What to me is more important for a battery trying to turn a starter motor is the CCA (cold cranking amps) figure which is the maximum instantaneous current that the battery will deliver. AH is really only of interest if you plan to leave the lights on overnight, and I believe is more applicable to the leisure type batteries fitted to caravans and the like.

I've made a note of that, just in case my Electra progresses from just a pile of boxes of bits!

Agree with you on Tayna, I've used them on several occasions over the years and have never been disappointed. Keen prices, and an excellent delivery service. A few months back, ordered online at 4pm, arrived before lunch the following day. 5* in my book!
