Can anyone help me wire up a new ignition switch? I recently bought a loosely IP2 and am hoping to get it on the road soon-ish. The rotary came without an ignition switch so I bought a new 3 position switch plus starter blades, ACC, ST, IGN, BAT.
Is this switch correct for the IP2?
Am I right in assuming the main 12V input into the switch is connected to BAT?
There are 2 blades for BAT, does anything else go to this position?
What of the bike's circuits go to which switch position?
I have worked on the wiring and connected up the ignition switch as I thought right but am getting some weird results.
Can you help as I am pulling out what's left of my hair at a rapid rate.

IP2 Ignition switch
The ignition switch should be left for side light, one click right for ignition and two clicks right for ignition and headlight. If the wiring is anything like standard, terminal one should have a brown/blue wire to the red plug. terminal 2 should have two white wires, one to the white plug and the other to the tachometer. terminal 3 should have a brown/green wire to the red plug and terminal 4 have a blue/yellow wire to the red plug. If you have non-standard wiring each will have to be traced back to source using a wiring diagram. I do have a spare IP2 workshop manual which I would be happy to part with, about a tenner should cover post and a 22mile round trip to the nearest PO.

Normally an Ignition switch only closes the starter solenoid circuit. The solenoid is connected to battery, and alternator +. It also has to keep the coils supplied at the same time, so loops to ignition on when it springs back after starting. Look at a late Commando wiring diagram to get an idea how Lucas thought. I always switch big currents with Relays, and run a good size earth wire from the front end to the battery as relying on the head bearings for continuity can give all sorts of problems.
