A technical forum for all Rotaries
As a recent convert to rotaries - an IP2 - I would be grateful for any views on oil. Having had a long term interest in rotaries I know that Shell Rotella was the recommended oil but is no longer available. Silkolene Classic 2T pre-mix synthetic 2 stroke oil seems to now be the preferred replacement, though I also read somewhere that synthetic oils must not be used in rotaries.
I've been looking for a rotary for ages and was just about to put a wanted ad in the club's classifieds pages, when this ebay ad popped up claiming to have an ex-factory test bike for sale, at what looks like a very reasonable price.
To start i must say what a beauty Norton you have.
Reason for contacting you, i am wondering where you got your exhausts from please? I am still trying to get my partners Norton on the road for early wedding presant but am having problems finding exhausts that will fit being the last Dunstall Dommi 650ss the built before they changed. And it looks like yours will fit, the reason for asking.
Just a short note to say I spend my evenings on the computer linking the rotary parts lists up for our new webshop. Commander and Classic are finished, I currently work on the Interpol 2, F1Sports and F1 will follow in the next 3-4 weeks I hope.
See www.andover-norton.co.uk and go to "Shop".
my interpol2 is a being difficult, it ticks over lovely, and when stood will accelerate to high revs smoothly, but when ridden at low revs it hunts then accelerates fine to 4500 revs but no further this gives about 50mph and drops as it climbs hills. The effect seems like fuel restiction.
I've changed from ASBO exhausts to standard and set the carbs up as per the book after cleaning them, would the change of carbs require a different set up or is it a bit more basic, your thoughts and advise gratefully received.
When I had my rotary [magnificent and would not stop accelerating!] I bought a workshop manual. I have a dirty photocopy and still have the original. This is dated 1984. This is free to anyone wanting to collect or pay for postage [oh why did I get rid of her!!!].
As recently appointed Events Officer of the Norton Owners club and owning a few rotaries in the family I wandered what interest there would potentially be for a Rotary only event, something along the lines of a weekend long riding event around the UK or perhaps a nip over to the continent for a blast around?
Please let me know your thoughts or feedback
Can anyone give me some indication of the value of an F1? 3,000 miles. Original untouched.
