Works continues on the ES2

Happy holidays everybody!

Now I'm back home at my moms where the ES2 is stored, and now I'm working on on the old girl.

The goals for the holidays are:

- Sorting out the poor electrical work inside the headlamp.

- Replace the tires, grease and adjust the brakes.

- Flush and refill the front fork.

- Replace the rear lamp.

- Drill out a broken bolt in the tank to replace the knee grips with originals.

- Grease everything and refill fluids.

It now starts and runs perfectly - Though the fixing bolt for the magneto housing is missing.

When I get home again, I'll adjust the clutch and put in a "stop"-switch on the dominator.

What are you guys doing on the machines?

Happy Holidays?' It is Christmas where I am, Christmas even in the White House this year.

That not withstanding the ES2 looks good, be nice to see it when it's finished. I can see it's not all original but Norton, that's the main thing BUT are you leaving the ears (Headlamp Brackets) unpainted? Or was this picture before you cleaned out the forks etc?

I've not run my Mk 3 Commando for 2 years now, I keep threatening to take it out but I don't have that sort of enthusiasm these days, especially with my new heating system in the house! Why venture out?

What I have been doing is to go round all the bikes and charge their batteries. Batteries don't like to stay too long discharged.

Another job on the Mk3 is to operate both brakes, them being hydraulic can seize up and before you know it; another seal kit is required. A job for each 3 months IMHO.

I don't get much dampness in the garage but when I do, I find a couple of hours with a small dehumidifier works wonders.

...you've reminded me to

1. take the plug out and spin the engine over

2. squirt some clean oil down the bore

3. drain the carb

4. charge the battery

5. take the Brooklands can off and grease the plungers

Shame on me for leaving it so long to get round to this.

Good points, Adam, where do you stop?

But after you have turned the engine over it is a good idea, unless you keep your bikes in the house, to stuff some cloth or kitchen roll etc up the silencer(s) (Or pipe if leaving the can off) to prevent damp air getting into the top end.

Even though I only use E0 petrol, I run my bikes, if to be laid up, until they run out of fuel. But if I was running on EN228 I'd do more than just drain the carb!
