Hi
I have a 1960 99 dominator, previousley owned by my father. I have recently rebuilt it but have two questions regards the timing.
Does anyone know the correct valve timing, I have one book that says 5 links of the cam chain between the sprockets and the other says 6 links. I also have some information that says Inlet valve should open @ 32*btdc
Also it has a magneto fitted with an auto advance sprocket, but a manual lever on the handle bars. is this correct? should I lock the auto advance pulley and use the lever or time the magneto and leave the manual adjustment alone.
Sorry if these seem simple questions , but I am more used to engine management systems than Magneto ignition
Any help greatly appreciated
Regards
Simon

Thanks Phil.
I'll time the magneto with the lever fully advanced then lock the lever and let the auto pulley do the work.

If you have both advance systems in place(never heard of that before) you will need to set the static timing at the advanced position with the auto unit wedged fully advanced,The lever should also be in the full advance position, otherwise there is the danger of wrecking the motor.

Thanks Robert.
Dont think the bike had the magneto on origionally, it was converted from coil ignition some time in the past for some reason.

Lock the lever for now to fix the ignition timing. However, it is useful to keep this feature as it does allow you to adjust the timing to allow for variations in fuel quality.
