Timing Light

Won't any battery powered timing light work if connected to the proper battery terminals?

Ignore what it says about not suitable for motorcycles or negative earth only.

Works perfectly on my Commando 850 MkIII

What difference can it make as long as you connect +to+ and -to-?

not commando. but my bike, is 6 volt positive earth. thorspark ign. i use a separate 12volt battery to power the timing light and place the trigger onto the spark plug lead. when i bought the light it said it would work on 6 volt which it would do, but it was as dull as a candle and no use. so hence the 12 volt battery.

Some ignition lights are direction sensitive on pickup.

I did say ignore what it says about not suitable for positive earth.  and ALL pickups are direction sensitive. If it does not work , just rotate on the HT lead.
