Ian Hi - i have just measured mine from a Mercury (late 650) and they are 70mm long (not counting the threaded part that screws into the slider). Remember there are at least two types for the short roadholders- mine from the 650 have a stengthening taper within so could not be used with external springs. Early ones have a neat step inside to facilitate the external spring (if fitted). Also some have holes for the special spanner for tightening whist later ones do not.

Ian - further to previous response I've looked at a pair of long roadholders from a Model 7 and they have a separate oil-seal holder and shroud (tube), with the shroud fitting neatly over the slider so covering the seal holder. I don't know how long the Commando, Matchless hybrids or Navigator ones are but on a 62 Dommie you'll be ok with 70mm. Cheers , Howard

'62 will be short roadholders, as will anything with a featherbed frame.
