I would like to service my tacho gearbox to repack it with grease and possibly shim it to reduce end float.
Does anybody know where you can get the core plug style MS discs without involving US coinage?

Thanks Anthony - the problem is they are supposed to be dished so that they expand when bashed.
However, if you look hard enough it is possible to find 13/16" dish style core plugs on eBay.
I have bought 3 (the minimum quantity) so if anyone wants a free one let me know and I will post one to them free, gratis and for nothing.

Got my tacho gearbox apart…
Got my tacho gearbox apart - the gears in are in perfect condition - surprising as it seems to be full of the sort of road grime you find under a british bike engine.
Anybody know what kind of grease or hypoid oil it should have?
Otherwise it will be 1/3rd full of LM grease.

Hi, try Castrol under water grease, they use it in Outboard motor gearboxes. regards, Paul

I had this problem myself, as some of my revcounter gearboxes had the 25 cents bashed in the end. I solved this when a friend of mine turned up some discs for me and pushed them into place. Some of those earlier revcounter gearboxes used a split pin to hold the discs in place, but i think these may have been for racing purposes.
