RM21 Wiring

Forums

My 650SS has a RM21 12v 2 wire alternator, the wires coloured white with green stripe and green with yellow stripe. A modern rectifier is fitted, with 2 yellow wires in and a black and a red wire out. Which wire from the alternator goes to which yellow wire on the rectifier? There are no markings where the wires go in. It is just marked WW10123W on the back. Many thanks.

Hi Bob. Many thanks. I was hoping that was the answer! It did not seem logical to have 2 wires the same colour otherwise. Black and red are fine; it is positive earth.

The bike has been off the road for a little while, during which time I fitted a new ammeter, as the old one shook itself to bits. It was charging before taking off the road, but since getting it running again it now shows a discharge with the lights on, and virtually no movement of the needle when they are off. I have put a 55w headlamp bulb across the two alternator wires and it lights up brightly, so that seems ok. Unfortunately I only have a wiring diagram for the original 6v system. The bike is non standard, with a separate headlamp and a simple toggle switch for the lights; mag ignition of course.

Any ideas?

Hi,

for your records, the WW prefix on your regulator indicates it was made by Wassell. Here is the instructions that would normally come with the unit (see attachment)

Thanks Skip. Good info.

I appear to have found the answer to the non-charging.... it helps to wire the ammeter the correct way....dohEmbarassed

The WW instructions included with this post are the usual rubbish-miss information from WW so view with care, although the connections are correct.

This is a regulator/rectifier NOT a rectifier which is a different item.
