Petrol additives?

Forums

Just wondering whether there's any consensus on using additives to compensate for the use of unleaded fuel. I'm hoping finally to be able to put a few miles on my 1974 roadster over the coming months and it occurs to me anything I can do to help protect the valves would be a good thing!

I've had my MK2A 850 since 1998, and haven't had a problem in this department. I heard many years ago that our valve seats are well 'ard, Austenitic iron's been mentioned, and consequently they never needed leaded fuel in the first place. That's all I know, though ...

The valve seats were hardened austenitic steel when alloy heads were introduced and so ready for unleaded. The additives are only of use on iron heads with soft seats.
