Hi Ian, yes cycle thread is correct but there will be some BSF as well, eg. fork oil drain screws, which later became BSW on the Commando, so beware!

Yep, an original 1960 bike will have BSCy, BSF and Whitworth threaded nuts, bolt and setscrews. Notice I said ORIGINAL? My 1961 Navigator DeLuxelooks the part but has a mish-mash of threads. The rear tank bolt is 8mm and so are the silencer setscrews! Both these fixing pointshave built-in captive nuts too!

I know just every nut and bolt on Bracebridge StreetNortons so give me a list and I should be able to tell you the thread types! An essential and cheap tool is a thread gauge with both Imperial and metric threads - only about a fiver! Without it I would be lost on my nut & bolt restoration of my 1959 Dommie 99!

Interestingly they tended to use 20 t.p.i. BSCy threads on any shaft or stud from 5/8" upwards, except on the Jubilee and Navigator which has 5/8" and 1/2" 26 t.p.i. shafts!

Cheers, Lionel

Thanks to you all for confirming something that deep down I already knew, confusion started when I received an order from a well known supplier of Norton bits for all the necesssary nuts and bolts and spindles to put the back end together , they were all UNF. Oh well time to get the correct cogs on the lathe and make my own.

Many thanks Ian
