New Saddle Quality Issues

Forums

As part of the restoration of my MK3 Commando, I bought a new Roadster saddle from ANL. It arrived with a bad scratch/gouge on the vinyl right where you sit so I returned it for replacement. ANL were great and replaced the saddle, but when I fitted the new one it had a sharp piece of metal under the vinyl where it sits on the frame which cut through the vinyl and put a nasty cut into my freshly powder-coated frame! I sent pics to ANL who again replaced the second saddle with a third one. This third one had been finished so poorly that no matter what I tried, the seat would not fit. The brackets were miles out, the holes for the screws didn't line up and the vinyl had been put on out of center so the lines were at least 2 inches out from back to front! I figured that ANL must have a bad batch of seats so ordered yet another one from Britbikes. This fourth saddle arrived today and surprise surprise, this one has also got the sharp steel edge sticking out of the base and cutting through the vinyl!! Have I just been unlucky or has anyone else had this problem with dreadful quality?

I've not had a problem with anything from Andover Norton, but sometimes problems can arise with any supplier.

What I cannot understand is, when you have returned a seat to them due to faulty manufacture, they send you a replacement without checking it first.

Then, to send you another faulty one beggars belief.

Does this mean they will continue selling their stock of faulty ones in the hope that, eventually, they will find customers who will accept sub-standard goods? I would like to think not.

I would imagine that when Joe Seifert gets on the case, something will be done.

Hi Steven

We bought two Mk3 Interstate seats and one Mk3 Roadster seat from Andover last year, quality was excellent, all fitted with without an Issue.

With your luck I would give the lottery a miss for a while ;0)

Andover Norton are one of the better suppliers but for seats I go to Leighton's rather than through a distributor.

I can't fault the service from Andover Norton, The damage on the second seat was under the vinyl covering and only spotted once the seat was offered up to the bike. I think it's a manufacturer problem as all four saddles appear to be identical with very similar manufacturing faults. I was hoping someone out there was making seats that will fit without a ton of filing out holes, bending brackets etc.
