Magneto removal

hi can anyone help I'm trying to remove the magneto on my dominator 88 I've removed the 3 nuts and the Centre bolt but now I'm stuck the problem is I took my workshop manual on holiday for a bit of light reading but I seem to have forgotten it in my caravan in Newark and won't be going over there for a few weeks, i just wondered if someone out there can help

Hi Simon,

You mention the centre bolt, Do you mean the bolt in the centre of the magneto sprocket? If so, the bolt should pull the sprocket off the taper on the magneto shaft, if it is an auto advance/retard unit. If it is a manual advance then use a puller to remove the sprocket and the mag can then be withdrawn from the engine,

thanks Rob it has the auto advance but it still won't move it might be just stuck on the taper i'll have another look tomorrow. i'll threaten it with a big hammerwink

thanks Rob it has the auto advance but it still won't move it might be just stuck on the taper i'll have another look tomorrow. i'll threaten it with a big hammerwink

Hi Simon,

I hope that you have only made the threat without carrying it out as the crankcase is the only part which will suffer, I recall that the problem of stcking auto advance units was covered here a few months ago so maybe a search of the theads will give you some ideas to free it,
