Lights/ignition switch PSR8

Forums

Hi, I have a 1960 Dommi 99 with a PSR8 Ignition/Lighting switch. On returning from a run this morning I had lost the screw which holds and works the lighting knob thingy! I have hunted through every screw I have and only found one with the right thread and it is far too short!!! The thread is very fine and, if I remember correctly, the srcew is custom made for the job. I do not want to spend 69 quid + postage to Australia for another unit...!

Any suggestions where I can get a replacement or subtitute screw?

Best wishes,

Don

The screw has an expanding sleeve ,if this is still there are options. I have seen the screw for sale at shows/ jumbles.

Sleeve and screw both departed!! Unfortunately Shows/ Jumbles are not an option in Perth, Western Australia. If I can work out the thread and, if possible, get a longer screw I may have to boge something up.

I have measured the only screw I have that fits and I think the thread is 'Size 12 BSCT' which is .1135" OD and 56 threads per inch. Not common in Western Australia!!!!!

G'day Don,

I think you will find the screw thread is 6BA. I lost mine off my 1960 Model50 some time ago, made do initially with a bodge of a screw and a bit of sleeve tubing before turning a one piece job as shown below.

In comparison to your mentioned 12g Cycle thread, 6BA is 0.1102" and 47.9 tpi, so not thatfar short; Lucas tends to be BA.

SWG Cycle thread taps and dies seem impossible to find although having recently failed within UK to find a tap to clean out the threads on some "modern" 10g spoke nipples to fit the more accurately cut original spokes on my 16H, I did finally locate and acquire one (9/64" x 40 tpi) from no less than Ebay Australia. So these thingsdo turn up in the strangest places.

Thanks Paul, Bad timing for ebay part! Will contact Modak on Monday, I only lost the screw this morning.

Thanks for all the help guys, at least I have the information to chase up the part. Living in Perth Australia is great, but the distance from things can be a bind.
