Has anyone fitted indicators using the headlamp fixing mounts?,if so what did you do with the threads as proper Nortons will have cycle threads?.

If a thin nut were installed on the indicator stud, that would allow you to tighten the nut tightly once the indicator is pointing the right way round.
Another option is to use the hella bar end winkers as used on Norton Electra's & /2 BMW's. They not only look very nice & age appropriate in polished alloy, but because the have both forward & backwards facing lenses, you only need to install 2 indicator (one at each end of the handlebars), rather than 4.
Original Hella ones run about 60 GBP, replicas about 21 GBP per set.

Hi Skip, Can't use Hella as have to pass thro some very tight spots. If I'm to use headlamp mounts suspect I will have to re-tap to match availiable lamps.

I have mounted the Commando-type flashers. Changed the threads in the headlamp and the stems to 3/8", changed the spacer between the headlamp and the headlamp brackets to the appropriate size. So I could mount them Commando-like.
Here are some pictures of my 650SS/1966 http://www.britbikeforum.de/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=7084

Hi Robert,
3/8" UNF. I've reduced the diameter of the stem to 3/8" on the lathe. There is enough material on the original stem to do this, it's only one eight of an inch. But don't do it with the pattern ones, they are completely different in diameter.UNF because I'm coming from the Commando-site, so I have a lot of SS UNF nuts, bolts and screws. Of course BSF would also do it.

I'm still not quite with it!, what threads do the commando indicators come with?, surely better to cut new threads to suit ? or are they much too large?.

They are 7/16 UNF. There isn't enough material on the nuts in the headlamp to enlarge it to this size.

AHHH ! Its all becoming clear now, thanks Fritz, I'm surprised no one supplies something more suitable, not many of us have a lathe to hand. What we need are some SS adaptors to accept the 7/16 UNF to fit to the std headlamp weld nuts!!.

Bob, my 88 has indicators fitted as you mention (by the PO) and they just screw straight in. No idea what thread they are but they're just the cheapo eBay offerings; I know this because I had to replace one of them. The main problem is to get them screwed up tightly enough to hold the lamp in position whilst still having the indicator lenses facing forward - fiddling about with washers of various thicknesses seems the only option.
