I need to fit new X rings to the kickstart and gearchange shafts. Am I right in thinking that to fit O rings to the inner gearchange spindle that I take the inner cover off and then the gearchange components can be slid out? Or is it more complicated than this?

I found the recess in my cover was much deeper than the x ring. No idea if cover is non standard...anyway I part filled the groove with silicone, slipped the ring in, and reassembled. It worked.

Gearbox type?
Just be aware that the later lightweight gearbox has a different, and better, seal arrangement. Both use the same o-ring.
The early version has a space for the o-ring which is a function of shaft diameter, housing diameter, and end float of the shaft.
The late version has a properly sized and machined o-ring groove in the kickstart bearing housing.

Yes, simple as that. As the cover comes off, the thin shaft for the indicator stays in the gearbox, the gear change mechanism stays in the cover.
do not use the NOC shop O rings as they are too small (so I have been told and now proved).
I have ordered 6mm x 2 mm rings which I am told will do a better job.
