Fork bush question

Forums

Hi all. I'm having a problem replacing my fork bushes for the first time - for me and the Dommie! - and wondered if anyone could share their wisdom with me? I have bought a set of pattern (have I answered my own question here?) bushes and seals and the inner diameters of the new bushes, top and bottom, are smaller than the diameter of the stanchion where they are supposed to fit. I've measured it all with a digital vernier, and it will be impossible to fit them without reaming. Is this normal? Or would I not have this problem if I had bought genuine parts in the first place? The forks are short roadholders, stanchions in near new condition, measurements taken at several places for diameter ranging from 34.48-34.5.

Thankyou Ravinder for your cryptic yet immediately informative reply. I should not have been such a tight wad in the first place. Never again will I put my trust in labels marked 'Quality Parts Made in England'!

Regards

Sahib
