Hi, I am building a Feb 1969 Norton Fastback, 3/4 finished but I have run into trouble fitting the new rear RGM isolastics. I can't work out if the early Commando isolastic bore is smaller than later models or if I am being stupid. The bore is 3.1/2cm the rubber is 4cm. The instructions say - use your thumb to press in the rubbers, but it's impossible! Has anyone done this before? Any help appreciated! Thanks.

Dear Wayne,
Some of the early isolastic bushes had an outer metal sleeve, this may still be in there if you have only removed rubber part + inner. Have a close look how many layers of metal at the end of the tube? feel with your finger does diameter enlarge inside after first inch. I came across these on my early fastback -sods to remove- if you find this outer ring you can carefully cut through it with a hacksaw blade to release it then drift it out.
good luck martin

Martin is correct, there will be a steel sleeve inside the cradle tube, almost certainly rusted in place.

Hi Wayne,
I have just fitted new isolastic rubber to my 1972 model, the bore is 36mm approx. The spare cradle that I have is the same (36mm). The rubbers did go in easily. Sorry it`s not much help to you.
What do RGM say?
Regards, Gerry.
