What is involved in upgrading the final drive chain to 5/8" x 3/8" on a Dominator 99

Basically, a new chain, new rear sprocket of a later Dominator, and sprocket off a late Dominator resp. a Commando. You need to watch the spacing out of the inner primary chasincase. Norton maintained 5/8"x3/8"(530) chain wasn't possible on a Dommi, AMC just put them on and showed it was. However, today's final drive chains are far better and stronger than the stuff I used to run in the 1970s- the much-praised Renolds GP chain wore out in no time at all on my first Commando, today's chains last 3-4 times the distance. Keeping that in mind, plus the fact modern bikes of 100bhp+ run the 5/8"x1/4" (520) chain of the early Dominators- f.e. Ducati 998- I think a 530 chain on a Dommi99 is a bit of a mechanical overkill. Should you need them, the part##s for the various bits can be found under http://www.andover-norton.co.uk/SI%20Sprockets.htm

I don't run anything other than Iwis chains these days. They're the correct external dimensions and quality is very good.

Watch out for thick side-plates on some makes.
