ES2 rear chain adjuster

Forums

When I tighten up the left side rear wheel nut the axle bears on the chain adjuster which bends up allowing the wheel to move forward on the left. Any ideas how to overcome this? On my third adjuster in twelve months!

Hi Stuart, what model ES2 is this? Sounds like something isn't straight/flat or round when it should be, or the threads on the axle are distorted.

It's 1956 swing arm model with the club adjusters fitted. It appears to be the wheel nut moving back as it is tightened which bends the adjuster. Makes it very difficult to adjust correctly.

Sounds like there is an eggcentric nut on the bike!.A similar thing happened on my slimline 99, The later Atlas has a thicker adjuster so thats the way I shall go.

I am a stranger to the swinging arm so can't really comment from experience, but I know that sort of problem. Can you fit a thin, greased washer behind the nut? That would absorb the twisting moment of the nut and hopefully keep things stationary while you nip it up.

Rigid/plunger is best. And compression of the spine.

Another problem solved - the correct adjusters, as sold on the club website, act upon the wheelnuts - if the wheel nuts are not polished and a coating of copperslip applied the adjuster binds on the nut dragging it up!
