Thanks for all your suggestions, I have now solved the fork gap problem

Can anyone tell me, what are the symptons of "Wet Sumping", am I correct in thinking it makes the engine hydraulic and hard to kick over?

Thanks in antisipitation.

Pete.

Not a dangerous hydraulic lock - just lots of oil around the crank so there's more drag when kicking over. Then when it starts, there's gross overoiling of the bores from splash underneath until the pump sends the surplus back where it belongs in the tank. Lots of smoke and excess revs might cause too much pressure on seals etc, but when this used to happen on my Dommie I ran it on a gentle tickover until the surplus was returned. I now have a tap linked with cut out switch.I did suffer an oil flooded magneto once and that might have been caused by overoiling after wet sumping in cold weather - but then again it might not.Other opinions may differ!

Thanks for the info Dave, I drained the sump of about half a litre of oil and it started first time.

Pete.
