Dominator 99 problem solved?

Forums

Having checked everything for the third time I noticed that there was still a spark on the left cylinder after a run but that the miss continued so I decided that the head had to come off. On checking the gasket I noticed that the copper gasket seemed to be blowing across the cylinders and into the push rod tubes. I cleaned everything up and fitted a new copper gasket and went for another run. After a couple of miles the problem was as bad as ever..!!.

I then went through all the replies that were posted to see if I had missed anything and found one from Baz mentioning that he had cured a similar problem by using an additive so I threw in the remains of a bottle of Redex additive for unleaded fuel I had on the shelf and went for a run. After two runs of 25 miles there is a huge improvement with the bike running almost as well as it did originally..!!.

It is still not running well on idle with the tickover rising and falling but at least the miss seems to have disappeared. I also have a bad leak from somewhere at the rear of the primary chain case when very hot but that is another days work.

Thanks to everybody who replied with suggestions but particularly to Baz for his cure. (BTW which additive did you use Baz?)

Hi additive is called ( CARLUBE ) i mix 35ml to 5 ltrs of unleaded petrol this seems to suit mine. this was on a trial and error basis. also too much additive i find it would run lumpy on tickover

i would follow instructions on bottle of addative to give you correct measure

Thanks Baz. I just chucked in a quarter of a bottle into a full tank which was probably too much with the result you describe. I will refill the tank and dilute the mix further.

Thanks again,

Peter
