Crankshaft primary drive sprocket on dynamo 99

Forums

Should there be a spring washer under the large nut securing the crankshaft drive-side sprocket on the early "dynamo" Donmmi 99? There is a recess machined in the face of the nut on its sprocket side which must be there for a reason? No washer on mine. Would Loctite do the job?

My 1955 Model 88 is the same. No spring washer, nut is recessed. Just torque the crank nut to 80 lb ft and stop worrying. Otherwise known as 'good and tight'.

Many thanks. I added Loctite too, and it all seems fine on the road. Fitting the primary chain is a pain. Any tips for that?

Tom - To fit primary chain, use an electrical cable tie to pull it tight a couple of links back from the connector link. Easy job - and you then don't need to lose that precious gearbox adjustment. And lock wire the U-clip..allegedly. No harm done by wiring it, and lots of scary stories about what might happen if you don't.For anyone with a later bike reading this - there should be a spring washer under the alternator rotor retaining nut. I did not know about that - and used Loctite. It failed and wrecked the stator!
