Commando Chain Oiler

Forums

Hi all, I have a 1973 mk1 850, I have removed the rear chain oiler that is fed from a branch on the return pipe to the oil tank. I fitted a breather pipe with a catch bottle to this , and have collected about a table spoon of oil after running the bike for about 5 mins, can I blank this pipe off ? or will the oil tank pressure be to much?

Thanks

I have one of these earlier oil tanks on my mk3 850 & have blanked it off with a pipe/bung - I do however have a pressure control valve on the main breather pipe from the back of the timing case to oil tank - would suggest you fit one, if not already fitted, as they reduce crankcase pressure

It won't be a problem with pressure as it's just returning to the tank. I had the bleed on my Mk 1 850 blanked off for 20 years with no ill effects.

WRT the breather, I took the one from the oil tank straight to the back of the bike and there was never a trace of oil coming out of it. My bike of course had the main engine breather from the back of the timing cover to the oil tank.
