I've used a Dremmel type tool with various brass brushes - cleaned it up quite nicely and surprisingly quickly.

I've used those Dremmel type brass brushes too, and had mixed results. If you go at it too hard you can be left with a brassy-coloured sheen although in my experience this is more likely when cleaning up Japanese heads. Those little brushes don't last too long either and the job can get a bit expensive. I tend to use green Scotchbrite pads these days with some Solvol - messy and time consuming but I've yet to find anything better.

Hi,

You could try soda blasting (see this months Roadholder) you can tweak the nozzle to get into all the crevices, the residue just rinses off with water.

If you do try this method, take some pictures and report back.
