Bushes for Laydown Gearbox

Forums

Hello Everyone

I am in the middle of rebuilding my Laydown box for a 1955 Dominator 88, and need to replace all of the bushes, so I need to know which of the available AMC box bushes also fit the Laydown.

Am I correct that the following are interchangeable?

040146 layshaft bush in kickstart shaft

040046 layshaft 1st gear

040062 sleeve gear bushes

Then, that leaves the following 2 floating bushes:

2nd gear mainshaft

3rd gear layshaft

For these 2, will the AMC ones fit, or can they be modified (shortened) to fit, or must I make these from scratch?

Many thanks for your help

Stephen

Hi Stephen, Are you certain you have a Laydown gearbox? I have one on my '54 Dominator, and thought that from '55 on the AMC box was used. In either case, try RGM, they supplied bushes, and other parts for mine last year.

Hi John

Yes you are right that they changed to the AMC around that time, but mine is from before that so definitely a laydown, no. GB8 5455.

So my query is regarding the 2 floating bushes (2nd mainshaft, 3rd layshaft) which I mentioned above. Will the AMC ones fit or can they be made to fit? Or must I make these from scratch?

What did you do for these 2? Or maybe you didn't need to change them....

Thanks

Sorry, I did not need to change the floating bushes, but it is worth asking RGM. You will find them very helpful, and, their delivery is very quick (5 days to Spain). Second choice would be Norvil, but it depends on which side Les got out of bed!
