My 99 has non-standard fenders, I've acquired a damaged rear one which has a dent near the front mounting hole. My body man is removing it and repairing other damage. But I see one for sale on ebay that has a similar "dent" but otherwise no sign of damage. Should this be there?? It doesn't seem it should be ... but best ask!Attachments rear%2099%20fender.jpg

That looks like a slimline mudguard since my wideline has an added valance on the sides. Neither my '56 99 nor '67 650 has the dent so I suspect it should not be there. It could be for a body style I am not familiar with like a DeLuxe, so someone else should chime in.

I think the dent is correct as its there so the mudguard misses the frame cross brace that the mudguard bolts too. It's hard to see from the picture what type of mudguard is but if it's got valences it's a wideline, if not its a slimline but both should have the dent I believe. Once you offer it up to the bike it will become obvious why it's there.

Correct Mark, my rear slimline mudguard has the same indent for the reason you state and I bought it as a British made repro from the club.

Thanks for the comments, hopefully my body shop man can put the dent back in! My frame is almost stripped (for painting) but the swing arm is still attached so I'll try and fit the fender to see how much "out" it is now.

Here is another photo of that fender - slim? wide?

What year is your 99 as that's an early featherbed up to I think end of 54. They are also fitted to 53-57 featherbed Inters. They are off featherbed a with the earlier loop on the rear of the frame.

55 had a hinged rear section and 56 onwards was a two piece with detachable rear section, both with grab rails.

Mine is a '62.

So this is the wrong fender?

If it's a 62 I would say its a slimline so yes it's the wrong one. Fortunately the one you have is not easy to find as I looked for years before I got a repro off Fred Williams. The one for a slimline is the one piece as attached. The club sells repro ones as that's where I got the picture.

if you want to sell yours I maybe interested.

Mark, I am looking for two mudguards for my 1955 88. Is the Williams guy the one that attends Kempton Pk bike jumbles and if so does anyone know if his products are any good? I do not expect to find the correct ones (hinged rear) as they are rare as the proverbial.

If anyone has a suitable set of guards or just the rear in the south of the country I would be very interested

Roger,

Fred is the guy at Kempton and his parts are excellent quality. Unfortunately I don't think he does wideline two piece rear mudguards as they are too much work. I'm not sure if he still does the one piece valanced rear for the earlier widelines still as I got mine several years ago. He does front guards, stays, tank panels and allsorts, it's worth giving him a call.

The club does the two piece rear and slimline one piece and I believe they are good quality.

The hinged rear guard for 55 are very hard to find other than the Indian ones but I have no experience of them.

The NOC shop has a couple of fronts so check them out as well

I don't actually own this one, yet. I've bid on it on ebay and am trying to get out of it if the seller agrees to cancel my bid. Feel free to go after it. Search for "Rear Fender Norton Model 99 600 Dominator".

The one I do own is from an Atlas, it seems closer but not quite right either as my taillight bracket doesn't fit it. Now to find an Atlas taillight bracket... I should have just bought a new one.
