1961 350cc Manx Norton

Forums

Would anyone have pictures or knowledge of a 350cc Manx Norton being raced in the 60/70/80's that had a fairing fitted in early 60's and most noticeably had a Lockheed front disc brake fitted during the 70 - 80's. I am trying to trace who owned and who rode this motorcycle. Engine & Frame No 97327.

Thanks

Ian

One clue will be "Records" on this website. Usually you can get when it was built, when dispatched and where to. If lucky, it will give you a clue to the first racer. All serious racers in the sixties fitted fairing. Has it been fitted with a 5-speed gearbox? My -59 40M has numbers starting with 81***, so yours should be later.

Very useful, thank you Mike. I am trying to contact Tony East on the Isle of Man, as I have been told the bike was held at the museum on display. Would you or any one in the NOC have Tony East's contact details?

Thanking you.

It appears the bike was completed on 21st August 1961 and supplied to Reg Dearden but no more information. As I mentioned it has been fitted with a 60's fairing, other race mod's titianium con-rod, ceramic - coated cylinder bore, belt primary drive, Gardner carb, Quaife six -speed gearbox, Lockheed front disc brake and Falcon shock absorbers, some expensive serious race mod's. I now know the bike was owned in the 1990 by Bill Hiscox who sponsored a rider Eddie Byers in the Manx GP for 12 consecutive year until Eddie's death in 2005 ( not on this bike ).

It is the earlier years that interest me as I believe these mod's were do for this period, which would suggest a serious rider?

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

Ian
