1953 Model 88 Amal carburetter spec?

Forums

I have Domi 500 1953 Model 88 (cast iron head), its fitted with a worn Amal 76AS.

Does anyone know what it should be fitted with ?

The Amal catalogue starts Model 88's at 1955 with a Monobloc 376/19

The right carburettor you need is 1952-54 = pre -monobloc 276- AK/1TK 1inch bore main jet 170 ,pilot jet 30 cutaway side 6/3.1/2 needle pos 2... needle .107

That's interesting!..reading from my Amal carbutettor list No. 440, dated February1956, thatfor the 497cc twin Dominator1949 - 1954, they were fitted with a 76AK/1AT carburettor. Apart from other things, 1" bore, 170 main jet, size 6 slide with 3 1/2 cut away, 2 needle clip position.etc, as previously stated. This is a pre-monoblok type wich has no removable idle jet, only drillings in the body. The 1AT bowl is angled at 7deg.

The 76AS unit you have came off a 1953 Triumph Tiger 100C, which were a twin carb bike, the AS being the L/H one which originally had a smaller main jet and bigger (leaner running) No.4cut away on the air slide. These which probably have been changed in a 60 year old carb.

Thanks anna for the information

I am woundering if it best to fit a Monobloc, accorder to the Amal book, they are an upgrade in performance.

Thank Paul

This may explain why it has never run too well. I am woundering if an upgrade to the 376 may be best.
