2015 Norton Tank Buldge

2015 possible tank bulge creating little dots under the paint lined up vertically

Can I massage this out?

Had similar on my 2012 yellow Sport tank which steadily got worse with these bumps and dots appearing all over front part of tank. Cannot rub them out. Believe it's fuel reacting with the HDPE material tank is made from. Got a new tank four years ago (600 quid odd from the old Norton company) and now always syphon out fuel if bike is not going to be used for more than a month. So far no sign of dots and bumps.

Esso Supreme is not zero ethanol in all areas ie the bio content is regional.

You could try draining it and leaving it to vent, but if the paint has already blistered, I reckon you'll be too far gone. Tanks were more like £1800 supplied painted when I was there.....which is pretty average, compared to other brands.

John Holmes is correct.

Esso Synergy Supreme remains E0 outside of the ethanol zones one should be aware of by now.

Always look for the red label.  A blue label = ethanol content, so beware.

There is no need to drain the tank if only using E0.

Stu Bodycote is involved with new ally tanks from TAB Classics, and has pictures of the first one now.

Indeed I am, and indeed I do....well, the first fully productionised Tab ii Classics tank. Ive actually ordered one in for a customer, with current lead time being around 6wks.

I'll do a full weight, dimensional and capacity comparison to the two Norton oe tanks when I get 10min.

I have a Manx  5 gal  TAB tank on my Dommie racer. It is untreated as I only use E0 in my Norton's.

What I wanted to say was that all Super unleaded has an E5 sticker on there., even outside of the ethanol zones.  But with the RED sticker the fuel is E0.

I bought some E10 tonight, all that was available. This to wash out the cam followers on the ES2 I am building. About all it is good for. (The ethanol, not the engine)

Michael, please see link below.  Just beware the alloy is very light, so easily dented. I take extra care with mine. (No dents yet)

Had this happen to my 2012 961SE after a couple of years and asked the mechanics at the factory about it and they said it was the ethanol in the fuel. Told me to either keep the tank either full or empty also offered a new tank at a price but the same would happen to that. I only use Esso e5 now and the best grade since it happened and it did disappear over time.

Hi Tony - Great to talk to you on Saturday at the AN open day - welcome to the club. It's good to swap notes and discover my previous 961 was the next reg number to yours. I always use premium fuel (up here Esso supreme has no ethanol) and keep the tanks full. For good measure, over the years I has added Ethanolmate which has kept all fuel components squeaky clean - Alan
