I wonder could someone advise me as to the correct location for the igniton coil on a 1959 Model 50. If you check the attached image, mine is mounted on a tab welded to the right hand top frame tube beside the carb.
The tab welded to the frame looks very original but as I have never seen another the same I suspect it's not. This has only presented a problem when I have bought a cycle pump and found the coil is in the way of the frame mounts.

Well there is plenty of space under there but no sign of an obvious mounting location. If anyone has a picture that would be helpful. I would rather relocate it correctly than make it up as I go along.

Christopher,
Your coil is in the correct position but would look lessobtrusive if you reversed the clamping ring such that the coil fits inside the framelug and therefore higher up. In this way it is almost hidden, especially when an inflator is attached to the tank. The photos below show my arrangement.

I'm not overly familiar with the M50, Chris, but Bacon states in his "Norton Singles": "In 1959 the singes followed the twins to the adoption of the alternator. On the ignition side a coil was adopted and fitted under the rear of the tank" Hope this helps. George
