Most 12v bikes without ele…
Most 12v bikes without electric starting will be happy with a 7-8AH battery. As Chris says things have moved on a bit in 13 years. I tend to use sealed 7AH batteries with spade connectors (there's no need for big nut-and-bolt connections) and run the whole lot through a 30A fuse - works a treat!. Once you move to electric staring it's a whole new ballgame though ... .
Cheers,
Mark Woodward.

I would stick to the old fashioned ordinary Yuasa. They last for years. I find that gel type sealed batteries give up every 18 months. Gordon.

Check-out Griffin Batterie…
Check-out Griffin Batteries. They can supply a range of batteries for Classic Bikes and advertise on Ebay. They are also quite cheap but do not sell rubbish.
I bought a replacement battery, from them, 2 years ago for my Dominator. I charged it as per instructions, fitted it and have not had to touch it since. I have just purchased a replacementbattery, from them, for my 750 Commando. Again fast delivery, cheaper than a local supplier by about 20%and no problems.
A few years ago, I trieda sealed battery, on my Commando, as a replacementbut after a year found it was not holding a full charge which upset the Boyer ignition system when starting the engine.
However, I have met some riders who have been using the latest Lithium Polymer batteries to provide electric juice for their machines. These are amazingly small for their capacity and very, very light. The downside is they need a special charging unit but this is also quite tiny and light and can be easily hidden away on a Norton.

Thanks all for your though…
Thanks all for your thoughts, I'm a bit of an old fossil and new stuff passes me by,up to recently I a never owned a bike that came with indicators, electric start or disc brake!!. I do have access to them but like the simple stuff. My newest bike is an 860 Ducati Bevel which has all these new fangled gismos.

We have had threads on this before and there have been some useful postings. Suffice it to say that battery technology has moved on and there are some more exciting options out there which will save weight and/or space and increase reliability, albeit at a price.
