Yep looks absolutely original (apart from oil and petrol tank colour) and very rare to have that big folding rear mudguard pretty well intact. At very very best it's worth £7-8K but it might be a great project for someone...I would certainly like it but have too many restorations I have to finish....I would say £3500 maybe £4K tops would be a fair price...Les

Small valve head wasn't fitted in '59 - other parts look fairly standard for the year. I get the impression that the forks may be bent as well. Oh hum ...... seems a lot of money to me. I've sadly refused better than that for as little as £200. If only we knew what someone's rubbish is really worth ? Cheers Les, Howard

Looking more closely at the attached photo rather than the one showing I think you're correct Howard....Forks do look bent back slightly. Initially I was assuming it was due to the lens distortion of the wide angle photo. Stanchions are not that expensive though. The splayed head of '59 was an option and the bike could be a late '58 model anyway so the head could be the machines original one. I would say that my initial value does seem too high but the bike will sell for sure so it would be nice to know exactly what for. Certainly 200 quid seems rather cheap...the frame alone is worth 500 quid surely?....

Les, you do seem to take comments a little too literally. I am sure Howard was notmeaning he had refused to buy, for 200, recently. My first (second hand) Dominator cost me 150, from Kings in Oxford. However, that was in 1957!

Indeed John ... My first Norton, 716 EKF, was a 1960 Slimline 99 costing £100 in 1966. I eventually sold it to Ray Fay Motorcycles in Liverpool and made a profit. Bought a '62 slimline ES2 with a 650SS donk for less than £200. Great days. Cheers all, Howard

If someone says " I've sadly refused better than that for as little as £200" but then adds only on a later post and says that was 40-50 years ago...(which is probably the equivalent to £5000 when one takes in inflation) ....How on earth am I to know that?...Please be fair!

I agree it's not your fault - probably your parents ?? ...Please don't confuse my second messages anecdotes with an admission that " I've sadly refused better than that for as little as £200 " and that was forty to fifty years ago. It was much more recently.

Returning to the original thread I should like to add now that rather than buy the depicted bike for £5000 a much better buy must surely be the '64 88SS advertised in our own classifieds at around £7500. A quicker, smoother running, better looking bicycle and generally a much better investment don't you agree ? Cheers all, Howard

come on, no body is hurt, no body is in the back of an ambulance no police involved . if you are going to wind someone up then you will get a reaction.

All Motorcycle forums are the same, someone tries to wind someone up for no good reason, or something is taken out of context, others join in "Pack" mentality and the original person gets shirty, for this reason!

I no longer contribute to 2 BMW forums and a British Bike one because of stupid remarks the main offenders posted whilst drunk, apologised " to all, but for me the damage was done!

We should have humour and fun, but personal attacks aren't either!

It's a "Keyboard Warrior/Sock puppet" syndrome and it's sad as contributors fall away and Forums die! Kent Bikers is a good example of a Forum with little traffic!

So if the parties concerned "can kiss and make up", the Forum can continue to be enriched by more valuable contributions!

Unlike Anna, who is constantly receiving "Stick" on this forum, Les has snapped back several times, on these pages. The slightest criticism, jocular, or otherwise, seems to be taken as a personal insult.

Ive only been on here 2 months, and read it every day to catch up on a few subjects that interest me, and cannot believe the posts preceeding mine here. I thought so-called educated men (and ladies) were far better than the rubbish Ive just read this morning.

A great shame that such an interesting platform for a fantastic subject has to stoop so low. Some purists will say 'you dont have to read this stuff', but retired people like to catch up almost daily on their interests and hobbies. Many times Ive backed off reading some forums because it seems the 'editors' need to do a slightly better job. UKBusa's seem to be going this way. (yes I used to run a 1st. generation Hayabusa) As another contributor above pointed out if you lose the customer base interest these platforms will be much less used. Lets hope for some tolerance, better editing and subject matter.
