Combat engine or not?

Forums

Dear Members,

I have a 1972 Interstete, the first year of the Combat series. Can any one tell me how to tell if mine has a Combat engine or not?

It has black barrels but I cannot find any 'C' mark anywhere on the cylinder head. Would it make any differance that it was exported to Ireland when it was made in 1972? The engine/frame number is 204220 if that helps and first Irish registration was on 14/07/72.

On a different note has any one got for sale a centre stand and brake lever for a 750 Interstate. as parts are very thin on the ground over here and don't want to buy a new one because the chrome would look too new.

Thank you and stay safe, Mike Kenneally, Ireland

Based on the fact that you cannot find the "C" mark on the head and the time of production is mid 1972 I would say you haven't got a Combat engine! My 1972 Roadster is only a few numbers away from yours and is not a combat. They stopped producing the Combat mid 1972,reducing compression, fitting milder cams, etc..I am fairly new to the Commando so wiser members may comment further.
