Colour codes and repairs to paint

Forums

Hello all

Can anyone help me with colour codes, (or any other means), of matching my Mrk111, 1975 commando 850, which has the white, blue and red colour scheme?

Also has anyone had any dealings with "repairing" sections of paint on tanks? My paintwork is original, but the last owner spilt brake fluid down one side!! resulting in some of the blue and red stripes being damaged. The rest of the tank and side panels are in good order. Do you know of anyone who could repair the section of paint?

regards

There is little point in identifying colour codes. Even if you could magically find a useable supply of the original paint, the finish on the bike will have oxidised and faded and would no longer match.

You really need to find an old fashioned car painter who doesn't mind going through the colour chips against your tank and then tinting to match.

The alternative is to take the tank to a paint supplier and let them computer match it but there may not be enough red to do that with. Many suppliers can then mix a supply in a rattle can for you and you can mask and paint it yourself if cost is the main consideration.

Hi Paul, don't know where you are based but I have just had all the paintwork done on my silver Mk3, including the graphics and pinstripes, by Altamura at Camberley. It looks a million dollars, or is that Euros !!

Cheers HT

Can always try a local bumper repair specialist, if they cna't help I bet they will give the details of the company that supplies them. Most paint can be made up in 100ml batches, that amount would be enough touch up for a lifetime.

Spoke to a member recently from Southampton, using advice from the other big Commando forum, sent his tank and panels to the US and saved a big wack even after postage. Just remember to ensure you keep proof you sent it to avoid tax on return, not that it should apply anyway on second hand historic parts.
