Eccentricity in front Isolastic

Forums

I have only recently disassembled my 1972 manufacture Combat Roadster Chassis . I noticed that the front Isolastic tube within the rubbers is not concentric - it is off center favoring the top .

Is this normal ? Does it perhaps become concentric when the weight of the engine is born upon it ?

These are the original mounts to the best of my knowledge .

If it seems the original rubber is sound after removal should they be replaced with new regardless of apparent condition ? I seem to recall a thread on this subject where some felt the originals performed better than replacements .

Thanks in advance for any opinion on this - Richard

That's due to gravity, when the bike is on the centre stand the weight goes through the rubbers, pick you new rubbers with care, some have been made with too hard a rubber. The MK3 suspensary device added to the headsteady will take some weight off the rubbers.

Thank you gentlemen for the quick replies and sound advice.

Given that the centerstand pivots on the engine /gearbox cradle it now makes sense - thank you John H for clearing that up. Can you or anyone else recommend a supplier for Isolastic rubbers of the proper density ? I am in the USA but deal often with both Andover and Norvil and have never been dissapointed with either.

John N - thank you for posting pics of what I may find - I will indeed dig deeper as all components are to be stripped and repainted .

Hi Richard

I just went for the verner set up from Norvil back and front, they are easy to fit by hand, if you go that route don't forget the rubber grease, which is referred to in the instructions but not supplied.

Hi Richard

If I was you I would dig a little deeper, attached is what I found on the other side of the rubber.

My MK3 was not that bad but was heading that way, all the old stuff went in the bin.
