Flamboyant Green

Forums

Morning all. I've been organising my winter projects for my early 650ss and one of these is to restore the original tank that came with the bike. The tank I'm running at the moment is a cheap Indian item which is useful but not a keeper. It also doesn't have the bosses for the tank badges.

On checking the tank I can clearly see the original colour was what looks like Flamboyant Green (see pictures) which does look rather fine. I know it's not a standard 650ss colour and was used on very later Atlas bikes as an option, but this isn't a standard bike so that's not an issue. The previous owner told me that the bike did have some Atlas parts so this seems to be be what he was referring to.

Does anyone have the recipe for the paint or know anything about how to replicate this? I think there is possibly enough on the tank for a professional to obtain a paint match but would be interested if anyone out there has used this paint. of course if you have photos then that would be very helpful.

Thanks as always

I think this is the Atlas Flambouyant Green colour to which you refer.  It is also mentioned on page 60 in Chapter 9 "The Atlas Story" in the Dominator Model Directory on-line in the website.  Mine is for sale in the classified ads, with additional white lining a la BEm, but you will need to buy the rest of the bike with it......Cheers Howard

Thanks Howard - that's a nice bike. I'll ponder your kind offer for a while but I'm not sure our relative financial expectations will find a happy compromise!

So far as Flamboyant Green is concerned, the colour I have seems a bit lighter than yours - a lot more 60's to be honest. This bike  popped up on a US group this morning and seems spot on. Clearly on an Atlas but does look nice in the sunshine.

Hiyah Kit - I'd call that a Metallic Green.  Mine came from Paul Dunstall many years ago.  He used to remove them from new bikes and fit his custom kits; - mudguards, fuel tanks, seats, exhausts, footrests, bars etc.  He then sold the removed parts at rock-bottom prices.  Great days........howard

Here are a couple more photos of Green Tanks.
First is an Atlas tank from circa 1968.

Second is a G15CS from around 1966.
