Just as a matter of interest, is there a record of the number of Combat engined Commando's produced?
I think we'll struggle with an answer to that one given the way that change seemed to happen on a month by month basis at the factory - from original Combats to 'detuned'. One source on 't'interweb' gives production numbers 200900 ish to 211110 before they were 'detuned'.
Henshaw says Combats start at 200976 and finish around 220000 but also states that between 3500 to 4000 that were built.
What's not clear is that the Combats that required a factory fix, or bikes that went out with a C stamped on the head but with less fierce compression, 'superblends', and a 'softer' cam.
I know that my own Combat has had a 28 thou spacer added to lower the compression - and as it hasn't blown up yet would have had the superblends fitted. It does however have the famous (or infamous) 'C' stamped on the head.
